JSSS Swim Courses
It is a very common question to be asked by Parents:
“what will my son/daughter be doing at the next level when they move into it………?”. [My answer is always,] “its MORE of the same but with MORE challenges MORE often and with MORE swimming”. ‘MORE’ then equals, exciting new experiences with exciting new results”.
What we do at the JOEY & KANGAROO level or KANGAROO level has the same meaning and concept running through it as the NUMBAT level – but at the NUMBAT level it’s just shaped into 4 competitive swimming strokes, namely:
Swimmers take on a new shape and new look as they progress through each and every level. For example, the skills to float in JOEY & KANGAROO level or KANGAROO level are the same skills required to win an Olympic Gold Medal in Freestyle, its just more refined!
The child in JOEY & KANGAROO thrives with the Parent in the water up until the child is approximately 5-7 years old. Parents can start in the water when the child is only 6 months old. This JOEY & KANGAROO level develops comfort with deep water skills that represent independent floating moving into rolling over with swimming movements. Each class has a maximum of 4 Pairs (1 Child & 1 Parent = 1 Pair).
The Results Have Been Outstanding in this Child & Parent Program. More specifically, the relationship the Child & Parent develop, is a “Water Relationship” with each other. Anecdotally we have seen a direct correlation to this successful relationship with children “trying” and “achieving” new water skills. Child & Parent together create these new experiences, enhancing their “Water Relationship” even more so.
The Child & Parent Program at JSSS is not about nurturing the Landbased Child & Parent relationship, its ALL about nurturing the Child & Parent Relationship IN Water. It is very different to Land! At JSSS we view this as a new opportunity to grow with your Child, not just watch your Child grow.
WE ALL NEED WATER TO GROW!
KANGAROO is the alternative option to the parent not being in the water which is required in Joey & Kangaroo level. KANGAROO level guides children, from 3 years of age, to independent floating combined with comfortable deep water experiences. The independence with vertical & horizontal floating positions in deep-water moves into rolling from front to back, without panicking. Each class has a maximum of 3 Children to 1 Teacher.
EMU continues to be an alternative option to the parent not being in the water which is required in the Joey & Kangaroo level. EMU level encapsulates what is finally achieved in the Joey & Kangaroo level which is developing swimming movements moving into rolling over both ways. Each class has a maximum of 3 Children to 1 Teacher.
WOMBAT is the first level you see your child become a Little Mini Swimmer in all 4 competitive swimming stroke MOVEMENTS, with a sense of ease through the water. Like all young children on land a big part of their development at WOMBAT level is to create energy and excitement surrounding these movements but with some body awareness. Each class has a maximum of 3 Children to 1 Teacher.
KOALA continues to develop and create energy and excitement surrounding the movements of all 4 competitive strokes with body awareness but places much more emphasis on the quality of body position. Each class has a maximum of 3 Children to 1 Teacher.
BILBY moves into the swimmer self-correcting and refining the Head & Body Position during faster swimming in Freestyle, Breastroke & Backstroke. Butterfly still continues to be performed but with timing the emphasis. Each class has a maximum of 4 Children to 1 Teacher.
KOOKABURRA is a transition level from swimming lessons to entry level swimming squad. It runs for 45 mins continuing to develop awareness from the swimmers perspective so they can take ownership about their quality of body position. Each class has a maximum of 4 Children to 1 Teacher.
ROSELLA is the entry level swimming squad. It runs for 60 mins continuing to develop awareness from the swimmers perspective to increase quality of body position. ROSELLA swimmers take ownership over their quality of body position during faster swimming. Time Trials are introduced at this level to facilitate such ownership as it provides another level of feedback. Each class has a maximum of 5 Children to 1 Teacher.
NUMBAT is the Junior Squad. It is the squad preparing for competition, if the swimmer is interested. It runs for 60 mins and as a member of the NUMBAT Squad each swimmer has the opportunity to attend 2 x Adult Squad sessions in addition to any number of the 3 NUMBAT Squad sessions, in a one week period. The Adult Squad is also available during School Holidays (not Christmas/Summer break). Guided by JSSS coaches the NUMBAT swimmers provide their own Goal Times, each term. This again helps to develop awareness & ownership over their quality of body position during very fast swimming, ie, during Time Trials. The most significant understanding required as a NUMBAT Swimmer is to recognise, learning to race with body position, now begins!
